What Is The Information Technology Salary Range?

What Is The Information Technology Salary RangeOne of the most common questions in the IT industry is on the topic of salary. What salary is expected? How much can I earn? Is my salary at the expected level of someone with my experience? Let’s have a look at information technology salary and how you can find out more information about it.

Information Technology Salary Depends on Role and Location

This is probably not the result you wanted to hear, but the salary for many IT professionals depend on the actual role you’re in. As expected, junior roles get paid less than senior roles, but some senior roles pay less than other roles at a junior or less experienced level. Management and responsibility also come into the equation.

Another factor in determining the salary of an IT professional is the location where they work or where the job is. Major cities usually pay more than smaller towns due to the larger job market. Some major cities even pay more than others. Some countries even pay more than others for the same work.

The main point I’m trying to make is that it depends on what you do and where you do it. The good news is that you can find out with a bit of research.

Where To Find IT Salary Information

A great way to find information technology salary information is the good old Google search. Searching for “it salary survey” should give you results on IT salaries. You can even filter this by your location – searching for “it salary survey india” or “it salary survey US”. Salary surveys are completed every now and then, and many sites publish the results of them for various locations and job titles.

Another way to find IT salary values and ranges is to look at job boards. I do this from time to time to compare my salary against advertised salaries in the market. Visit a job board website, search for your job role, and browse the results. It might take a bit more manual work, but you’ll be able to get some results from it, and an indication of the salary range.

These information technology salary results are based on total compensation (salary + bonuses) for US jobs. Your market may be different (I’m based in Australia) but the ratios may be the same between job titles. This should give you some indication of what salary different IT roles get. It doesn’t factor in years of experience or cities – for that information, I would suggest looking up job board websites and seeing what roles are going for. Those sites are a more real-time and detailed level of results.

I hope this information has been useful to you when looking for information technology salary information. Have the results surprised you, or are they what you were expecting? Leave a comment below!
